EXTENSION OF THE VALIDITY OF THE MACHINE READABLE
PASSPORT (MRP)

This is to inform all Nigerian nationals in Belgium and the
Luxembourg, our host authorities and indeed the entire
public that due to unforeseen circumstances which have
made it impossible to meet the 30th April, 2011 deadline for
the expiration of the existing Machine Readable Passport,
the Federal Government of Nigeria has extended the validity
of the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) from the earlier
announced date of 30th April, 2011 until further notice.

Nigerian Nationals who are yet to obtain the new ECOWAS
E-Passport are expected to take advantage of this extension
to obtain the passport from any Nigerian Embassy or
Consulate nearest to them, as no further extension may be
tolerated by the Federal Government after this.

Host authorities and other relevant institutions/organisations
are requested to continue to accord recognition to holders of
valid MRP until further notice.
