The Consular section is responsible for rendering consular and immigration services to Nigerian
citizens in Belgium and Luxembourg. It is therefore advised that newly arrived Nigerians should
register with the embassy.
Consular fees
Passport
Marriage
Nigerian Missions abroad are authorized to issue/renew Standard Nigerian Passports and
Emergency Travel Certificates only. Presently Nigerian Embassy Brussels is unable to issue
Nigerian Passports. However, applicants can be given letters of introduction to the Nigerian
Missions in The Hague (Netherlands) and Paris (France). Listed below are the requirements:

Issuance of Standard Nigeria Passport
Re-issue of Passport
- Application letter for re-issue of passport
- A completed passport application form
- Copy of Resident Permit
- Expired/Old Passport
- Copy of a valid resident permit
- Copy of 1st seven pages/data page of passport
- One passport-sized photograph

Application for Passport for a Child
- Application letter for a first passport
- A completed passport application form
- Copy of birth certificate (Original must be shown)
- Copies of Nigerian passport of either the mother or father of the child
- If one of the parent is a foreign national, he/she has to provide a letter of consent with
his/her copy of passport
- One passport-sized photograph

Replacement of Lost Passport
- One passport-sized photograph
- Application letter for replacement of lost passport
- A Completed application form from the Embassy or download from website.
- Such completed Passport application forms are thereafter submitted with a Police extract,
affidavit of loss, birth certificate or declaration of age and letter from National Population
Commission, marriage certificate in the case of married women to the Officer in charge of
passport at the Nigerian Mission in the country of residence.
- Copy of a valid resident permit

Endorsement of Child's Name in Mother's Passport (only on old MRP passports)
Applicants with the newly introduced electronic bio-metric passports should please note
that the children can not be endorsed on the new passports. Children can now apply
for their passports.
- Completed Child's Endorsement Application form
- Two small Coloured Passport-sized photograph of child
- Photocopy of the child's Birth certificate (bring original copy as well)
- Photocopy of mother's passport
- Photocopy of father's passport
- Letter from father of child/children giving his consent for the endorsement of the child's
name in mother's passport.
- Application letter from the mother of the child/children requesting for the endorsement.
- Copy of mother's resident permit
- Child must be under 5 years old.

Renewal of Passport
- One passport-sized photograph
- Completed passport renewal form
- An application letter
- The Original passport to be renewed
- Copy of pages 1-7 of the relevant passport of applicant and that of the person verifying
the declaration made by applicant on the form.
- Copy of valid resident permit

Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC)
- Letter of Application - applying for Emergency Travel Certificate
- Two recent coloured passport-sized photographs
- Police report with a copy of the lost passport
- Age Declaration/Affidavit and letter from National Population Commission.
- The application letter need to cover the events surrounding the loss of passport and will
include the following
- Date and place of birth
- Local Government Area
- State of Origin
- Evidence of Flight Ticket booking to fall within 2 days of travel

Marriages conducted in the Embassy are in accordance with Nigerian Marital laws.
One or both party must be a Nigerian Citizen with full proof of their citizenship and should be
resident in Belgium.
Requirements:
- One (1) passport-sized photograph each.
- Original and photocopies of (their) Nigerian passports.
- Original and photocopies of their identity cards.
- Original and photocopies of their divorce certificate (where applicable)
OR
Affidavit of sworn bachelorhood/spinsterhood.
e. Completion of marriage data form.
Procedure for marriage:
1) The Nigerian partner is required to formally write requesting permission to be
married at the Embassy.
2) The couple would be invited to the Embassy if their application is in order. They
would be expected to produce all the necessary requirements and pay all necessary
fees.
3) A marriage banns would be published on the Embassy Consular notice board for a
period of twenty-one (21) days after which the marriage can take place on the date
approved by the Embassy.
