His Excellency, Ambassador Usman Baraya has assumed office as the
Nigeria Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium. He is also the Head of
Nigerian Mission to the European Union and concurrently non-resident
Ambassador to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
Ambassador Baraya is a seasoned diplomat with 27 years of experience in
the Foreign Service. He has served in various Nigeria Missions among which
are Geneva, Brussels, Riyadh, London and Hong Kong. Until his appointment
as Ambassador to Belgium, Amb. Baraya was the Deputy Head of Mission in
the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC, USA.
Ambassador Baraya would bring to bear his vast experience in forging even
closer ties with Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union. He is also
determined to raise the profile of Nigeria in the ACP Group of States as the
group enters the critical stage of concluding Economic Partnership
Agreement with the European Union.
Ambassador Baraya is married with children.
